Panning , Sluecing and putting the color in your hands.

Shovel a small amount (4-5 handfuls) of material into your gold pan. Slowly lower your pan into the water. Make sure all of the material in your pan is wet. Break up any clumps of material and remove any large rocks.

Swirl the pan in a counterclockwise motion. The swirling motion does two things: (1) it allows the gold to begin settling at the bottom of the pan, and (2) brings unwanted dirt and gravel to the top of your pan. Do not allow any material to slosh over the sides of your gold pan.

Alter your swirling motion to a gentle side to side rocking motion. This helps the gold settle at the bottom.

  • 4
Tip your pan and allow the current to rinse off the top layer of dirt and gravel. Be careful not to allow too much material to be rinsed away, you should only allow one layer at a time. Gold may be washed away if too much is done at once.

  • 5
Slowly, move your pan forwards and backwards to assist in washing away unwanted contents.

  • 6
Repeat the swirling and rinsing pattern until you have a few spoonfuls of material left in your pan. The material left in your pan at this point usually looks like black sand. Look in your pan for gold slivers, if you see some make sure you swirl hard enough to keep them at the bottom. If you see a lot of them you may not be swirling hard enough for them to settle.

    Enjoy!

Make sure you don't drop the pan because that is a lot of work.
